Two men killed in train‑pedestrian accident on Christmas Eve in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF — Two adult men were killed on Christmas Eve after being struck by an eastbound train while attempting to cross railroad tracks in east Flagstaff, police say.

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 near the intersection of East Nestlé Purina Avenue and East Industrial Drive, close to the Flagstaff Mall. Police responded to reports of the collision and found that both men had been hit by the train and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to preliminary information from the Flagstaff Police Department, the two men were part of a group of three attempting to cross the tracks when one slipped and fell.

The second man stopped to help, and both were struck by the approaching train. The third individual, who was not hit, reported the incident to authorities.

The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and next‑of‑kin notifications are pending as investigators continue to work with railroad officials.

The Flagstaff Police Department reminded the public of the dangers posed by railroad tracks, noting that trains cannot stop quickly and urging pedestrians to use designated crossings and avoid railroad rights‑of‑way at all times.

The incident remains under investigation.
